What’s Your Brain Age?

Your brain controls planning, organization, decision making, and everyday cognitive abilities.  As you age the ability of your brain functions can change.  Some of these changes can be.

  • Problems Multi-tasking.
  • Recall Issues- remembering names, facts, dates, and struggling to find words.
  • Difficulty paying attention.

Brain Age Men vs Women

Did you know that brain aging is different for men and women? Men who are overweight, diagnosed with diabetes, or have had a stroke are more likely to suffer from cognitive impairment.   Whereas Women, however, are more likely to suffer from a cognitive impairment if they were dependent on others for daily tasks and lacked a strong social network.

Brain Games

Did you know that you can play games to help stay sharp and increase your brain overall performance?  A few things that can be helpful would be.

  1. Word Puzzles like crosswords from the daily newspaper or magazines.
  2. Arts & Crafts – Making cards, painting, knitting or even building keychains.  Nothing like some crafting to keep the mind working on creating a few handmade crafts to keep you sharp.  (especially if you have an eye for detail.)
  3. If you have access to the internet, there are a ton of fun games that can provide hours of entertainment.  Not to mention make your hand-eye coordination a bit better.
  4. Jig Saw Puzzles – We all played with them as kids, they are colorful and can be easy with big pieces or more challenging with small pieces or no picture for those who want a real challenge.
  5. Sudoku – Like a crossword puzzle using numbers to play instead of letters.  So if numbers are your thing this game might be for you.
  6. Checkers / Chess – These are 2 classic games.  They teach strategy and help build relationships which are all great things for exercising aging brains.
